anna-photoAnna Plant, Piano Instructor at Bowman School

Ms. Plant has been teaching piano for the Traveling Music School at Bowman School since 2009.  Her interest in piano was peaked when she heard the LP recording of Ferrante and Teicher’s 1966 album We Wish You a Merry Christmas.  Ms. Plant began studying piano at the age of ten.  While attending community college in San Diego she studied under Music Department Chair (and later Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts), Steve Baker.  It was here that Ms. Plant not only continued her interest in classical music, but also expanded her knowledge and skill in reading chord charts and playing popular music.  She attended Chico State, where she completed her BA in Music, as well as receiving a MA degree in Music, with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy.  She studied privately under Dr. Robert Bowman (now retired), as well as taking accompanying and keyboard literature classes with Dr. John Milbauer (current faculty at University of Arizona).

As a classically trained pianist, Ms. Plant believes it is important that all of her students learn theory and good musicianship.  In  addition to learning traditional repertoire, she also encourages her students to explore a variety of music styles including popular music, jazz and musical theater.  She is dedicated to not only teaching the fundamentals of good technique, but instilling a passion for playing the piano and a life long joy of music.

In her spare time Ms. Plant enjoys traveling with her husband, reading and cooking.  She currently resides in Mountain View.
